1. UW
Update Wednesday 5/6/15
a. Physics.
b. Linear.
Got my midterm back. I took one look at it and reeled in shock. Apparently I’d
either a) made way fewer mistakes than I thought I had, or b) the grading was
very lenient. (I looked at it later and found it was mostly a), but also a bit
of b)) This bodes well for my ability not to worry too much about preparing for
tests, etc. in the 16-17 credits of science classes/quarter world that looms in
the near future if I decide to pursue a CS-Physics double major.
c. Physics
lab. Interesting lab—it’s fun to be thrown into an optics lab after not doing any optics in the rest of 123 because
the Honors section does quantum instead. You feel like you’re learning a lot J
d. CSE
311. Lecture reviewing the topics of the past week.
e. Ate
lunch at the HUB after 5 straight hours of class. Really enjoyed my pork bahn
mi and garlic naan J
f. Returned
to Haggett, did a little CS hw, went to soccer. Played pretty well, but I had a
few annoying missed opportunities on both offense and defense. The Free Agents
narrowly lost their final regular season game, 3-2.
g. Back
to Haggett. Ate an apple with peanut butter, and off to the CSE review session.
Learned a bit, but the review session didn’t do much for me. A lot of it was
clarifying definitions and specifications, which was annoying.
h. Went
to the Magic Flute opera (free!) that Paul from Glee Club is in. The singing
was great—I can really appreciate it now after trying to hone my singing for
two quarters—but the plot was so weird and incomprehensible I was laughing and
burying my face in my hands at the absurdity. It was probably rife with
philosophical and mystical commentary, but I’m not sure it deserves the
analysis. Over the course of the opera, the half-rationalist, half
Egyptian-pantheon worshipping cultist Sarastro orchestrates relationships for
the two protagonists, but in the final, chaotic scene he is deposed by the
forces of chaos; the morality is left ambiguous.
i.
Realized it was 10:30 (fhwqhwgads!) Grabbed
dinner at the Gyrocery, whose tender lamb and spicy sauce never fails to put a
big smile on my face. Returned to Haggett, did a few things, wrote this log,
and went to bed.
