1. UW
Daily Update Sunday Nov. 9
a. Slept
in.
b. Worked
on post for ed class and Honors 100 assignment.
c. Went
to Indian lunch buffet. Called Mom on way there.
d. Read
physics and Wise Man’s Fear, the
sequel to Name of the Wind that I obtained as an e-book through the Washington
Anytime Library, while eating delicious Indian food and drinking hot chai.
e. Returned
to the dorm ridiculously stuffed.
f. Watched
a little bit of the Seahawks game and helped Chase with a calculus problem.
g. Met
Jessica from ed class in the only study room she could get, all the way across
campus in the awesome, wide-open Health Sciences library. Talked about our
group project for the class, a planning document for a website based service,
maybe its own thing or maybe integrated with another education coalition,
building on partnerships between business and education to streamline pathways
for upward mobility for working adults. (This sounds really pretentious as I
write it.) Businesses in an area would describe the skill sets most needed in
their employees; educators would provide information on appropriate curricula;
and both would provide access to this information, and the ability to log
progress towards obtaining skills and education, and to receive feedback on
this progress on a website. I’ll let you know more about our idea as it slowly
coalesces from pretentious-sounding amorphous blob to potentially plausible
project.
h. Chatted
with Jessica a bit, walked back to the dorm.
i. Met
with Chase and August to discuss upcoming Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I’m
stoked! August is the Dungeonmaster, the person who leads the game and decides
how the world reacts to decisions made by the players, and he’s fleshed out a
really cool world. We talked about weird moral philosophy implied by the “Alignment”
mechanic in D&D, where a player’s character has a Good-Evil alignment and a
Chaotic-Lawful alignment.
j. Ate
some pizza and video chatted with family.
k. Got
ice cream at Rick’s and ate it while reading physics.
l. Hung
out with Xin for a little while.
m. Finished
writing ed post and turned it in.
n.
Wrote log, read, went to bed.
