1. UW
Update Thursday Feb. 19
a. Woke
up, showered, and went directly to tutorial. I’m becoming more and more
enamoured of this quick-prep, don’t-pass-breakfast strategy that saves an extra
20 minutes of sleep.
b. Went
to Cows class, where we had another interesting discussion on Thomas and had a
presentation on veterinary medicine.
c. Ate
lunch with the CS people at Mod on the Ave again. Ended up monologuing on the Fermi
Paradox; their opinion was that the set of events that led up to
intelligent life were cumulatively unlikely and together formed the “Great
Barrier” that explains why we don’t see any aliens.
d. Went
to lab, where we built some interesting circuits to measure the current vs.
voltage curves of non-ohmic devices (for an ohmic device, current vs. voltage =
resistance is constant).
e. Returned
to dorm, grabbing a slice of pizza (I was still hungry J ) and pencil lead on the way.
f. Skyped
with Grace for about an hour. We talked about some of the cool stuff she’s
doing with the Whitman fencing club, and debated some of my ongoing education
ideas.
g. Went
to Glee Club, where we tried doing songs from memory and not in our groups,
which was hard.
h. Grabbed
some dinner with my physics book as company.
i. Did
a little work, then headed to Film Club with Jamie, where we watched the
terrific movie Birdman. Very engaging, hard to sum up, lots of people with
conflicting but not obviously fallacious narratives trying to collaborate on a
crazy Broadway play. Highly recommended.
j. Returned
to dorm, grabbed Rick’s, finished physics reading (things are starting to
gel!), started reading about unschooling and went off on a mincome tangent.
k.
Did physics postlab to restore my feeling of
productivity, wrote this log, went on a quick walk, then went to bed.
