10/14/15

1.     10/14/15
a.     Highlights: Stayed up late doing math hw with Johan. Went to his house, baked pizza (like a Risk party!) and drank tea. Planned to stay up super late, but slept through our power nap alarm J Also: awesome probability problem in 312. Imagine you have 30 dollars and your opponent has 70. Flip a coin. Tails = you give a dollar to your opponent Heads = converse. Game ends when one person has all the money. Turns out you have an exactly 30% probability of winning all the money. WTF? Linearity of the bell curve?
b.     Other things: Went on a run again in the amazing reserve down by the soccer field. Went to the new Area 01 on west campus—it’s ridiculous—they have a makerspace, image lab with greenscreen, and last but not least, a sound / recording lab, which I toured.

10/13/15

1.     10/13/15
a.     Highlights: Got tagged in the rrrgggh-st way ever! Asked my math professor a question, walked outside with him. Had to put my Human bandanna on because I was outside; my classmate immediately turned into a Zombie and tagged me. I couldn’t even say anything because I was talking to the prof. Also: good SPS meeting. Talked more about upcoming events and tacked some more stuff on my todo list.

b.     Other things that happened: Resume review workshop! Got a bunch of suggestions for revising my resume from an Amazon recruiter (#1, drop everything that happened before I came to the UW). Glee Club sounded low-energy, but was still fun. Aand CSE 311 hw.

10/12/15

1.     10/1\2/15
a.     Highlight: HvZ started today! I managed to avoid being tagged, sprinting from building to building, stunning several zombies with socks including my wingmate Maddie.

b.     Other things that happened today: SPS meeting, talked about SPS facebook pages. Finished up project with Hao. Hung out in the lounge with some floormates; one, Siri, made us tea.

10/11/15 (5 minute summary)

1.     10/11/15
a.     I’ve been finding I don’t even have time for my 15 minute summaries anymore! So I’m downgrading to 5 minutes in the hopes of ensuring consistent life documentation.
b.     Highlight of today: Going to Yoga class at Yoga for the People. Amazing space, heated to a sweaty 80 degrees or so, lit with lots of candles.
c.      Other things  that happened today: I worked on 332 project, met with Chase about a campaign I might not be able to attend, ate at my favorite Indian buffet, finished up 312 homework (yay!), skyped with parents (fun!) and finished up the day with a quick frisbee toss with Xin and John from the floor.

d.     Hope everything is great with y’all! Run towards the world and don’t look back!

10/2/15

1.     10/2/15
a.     Wake up early, print physics flyers in physics building. Go to Olmstead’s Phys 224 class and make SPS announcement. Goes pretty well.
b.     Hang out in SPS lounge
c.      Math 334 section! Q&A on hw. TA does introductions; I write down names and try to memorize them during the section, while Issa looks at me amusedly.
d.     Meet with CS 332 project partner Hao Hu in Research Commons. Make a plan for doing the project and read up on the spec.
e.     332! Formal intro to big-O, omega, and theta notation definitions for the complexity of a program.
f.      312! Basic probability stuff.
g.     Schnapsen party! Head over to CSE building, meet in old Honors 143 section room, and play the card game Schnapsen with 312 classmates for 2 hours. At first I play a noob; teaching is tricky, b/c I barely know anything myself. But then I get to face off against Mintu, a girl of about my own level and engagement with strategy. An intense intellectual battle ensues, despite the fact that I’m running on 5 hours of sleep. Mintu eventually gets the best of me.
h.     I head back to Haggett, walking part of the way with Olga from 312/332/311 J I hear a bit more of her life story—apparently she’s bounced back and forth from university to university and program to program (Linguistics in Russia, Business here, Informatics here) until she found one she liked (UW CSE) at the age of 27.
i.       Get back to Haggett and immediately set off with the floor to the UW Men’s Soccer game against San Diego. It’s a beautiful night. Awesome venue, trees on most sides, looking at the fading sun over Husky Stadium. The game is very exciting. In the last 10 minutes, UW scores the winning goal, 1-0.
j.       Eat dinner at the 8 with John, Ee Lin, Tay, and Vivian from the floor.
k.     Return to Haggett, do email, try to read important parts of optional 332 textbook (that aren’t review), read a bit more about Eclipse.
l.       Brandon comes over and works on CS parallel with Xin. Eventually, I convince them to go out and boffer for a bit. They seem like they have a lot of fun.

m.   Write this log and go to bed.
